A Calm and Quiet Soul
It can be a great challenge to care for a newborn baby or a small infant. We never get much sleep. We are awakened by their cries every couple of hours, when they become hungry or need to be changed. They cry because they are restless, and they do not know where their food is going to come from. We can be that way, even as adults.
David painted this picture for us. (Psalm 131:2) His testimony was that he had calmed and quieted himself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for his mother's milk.. Yes, his soul was like a weaned child. That is a great way to show us what God wants all of us to do every day.
Some people cry when anything difficult happens. They cry about financial needs. They cry out to God and others, because they have no assurance of what will happen in the future. They live a very unsettled life. This is not God's will for any of us.
God wants us to calm and quiet our soul, our mind, will, and emotions, so we can live a peaceful happy life. The way we do this is to trust Him fully, because we know how much He cares for us. Then, we do things His way, not our way. When we live by faith, not by sight, we have a great calm come over every area of our lives. God responds to that faith and meets our needs in His way.
