Foolish Assumptions

When people are trying to figure out a problem in the world, they base their thinking on various assumptions. If their assumptions are wrong, then their conclusion will be wrong. We see this happening all the time. It is worse today, because people do not believe in absolute truth, so they think they are able to figure things out on their own, when they can't.

The book of Ecclesiastes explains this for us. (Ecclesiastes 10:13) Fools base their thoughts on foolish assumptions, so their conclusions will be wicked madness. That is a very blunt way to express this reality, but it is very true. Just think about the conclusions people are reaching today about life and its meaning.

The Bible says a fool is a person who says in his heart there is no God. Therefore, they feel free to think and do whatever seems right to them. Without the truth of God, they have all kinds of godless assumptions about mankind and reality. That is what leads them to conclude such wicked madness as abortion and gender identification.

However, as believers, we do not have to "assume" things. We can know the truth, because God's Word is truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. He illuminates the Bible for us to see the truth clearly. Then, we can know that our conclusions are righteous and totally sane. I pray we would stand firm in what we believe based on the Bible, no matter how many people go toward wicked madness.
