Judged by the Same Standard

Every person who has ever lived will be judged by God. No one will escape His judgment of how he or she lived their life. This is a sobering reality. We all better be ready for this time of judgment. God will not cut us any slack.

The people of Jerusalem discovered this truth. (II Kings 21:13) He told them that He would judge them with the same standard He used for judging Samaria and the family of Ahab. Based on their sins, He would wipe away the people of Jerusalem as one wipes a dish and turns it upside down. I know we do not wish to have this happen to us.

In our time of judgment before God we will give an account of how we lived our life, and we will receive what we deserve. It is not when our salvation is decided. When we die, we are either saved or lost based on whether we trusted Christ in repentance and faith or not. After our death, we will face the judgment for our life.

Even if we did receive Christ, we could have a terrible time at the judgment of God. He will judge us all equally, and if we did not do God's will after we were saved, we will suffer loss. It will be a miserable time, as we see what could have been. Yes, we still get to go to heaven, but we suffer shame and loss for our unfaithfulness, just like Jerusalem suffered under God's judgment. Let's make sure we are faithful, so this doesn't happen to us.
