Generations

God understands the importance of a generation of people. He designed the family and society in such a way that each generation passes on information to the next generation. If they do well, they are blessed, but if they fail, things fall apart. Therefore, God promises to bless us or punish us based on the generations before us.

Jehu was faithful to what the Lord had commanded him to do. (II Kings 15:12) So the Lord's message to Jehu came true. God had said, "Your descendants will be kings in Israel down to the fourth generation." That was a great blessing from the Lord.

I wonder how much we have been blessed by God because of what the previous generations in our family have done? I believe we would be surprised if we really knew. God honors the faithfulness of His people, and He does it by passing on His blessings from one generation to the next.

However, the opposite is true, too. I am sure there are problems in some of our families, because God is still sending punishments upon us because of the sins of our ancestors. That is why we need to obey the Lord and be faithful to Him. It is not just for us but for the generations that will follow us.
