Trusting God When Others Won't
It is very hard for us to go against the majority. Most of the time, we like to be accepted by other people. We fear that if we go against what they say, they will laugh at us or reject us, so we stay silent. That is a terrible way to think, as a believer. We must be ready to stand up for what is right, even when the majority is pushing us in another direction. We must remember that our flesh will be weak, so many people will listen to the feelings and impulses of the flesh, and they will fail to trust the Lord. We must follow the Holy Spirit, who shows us the truth, and we must stand up for it, no matter what others say or do. That is what Caleb did when the spies came back from looking over the land of Canaan for Moses before the invasion. (Numbers 13:30) He tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses believing the bad report of the 10 unfaithful spies. He said, "Let's go at once to take the land. We can certainly conquer it." Caleb is a great example for us today.
Of course, the unbelievers around us will not trust the Lord and believe His Word. Every day we need to be the salt and the light for them, to show them the truth of God and lead them to trust Him. However, even many Christians will fail to really believe God and trust Him completely in all areas. So we have to stand up to them, as well. This makes our lives challenging. We are seen as the one who is unusual or even strange, because of our trust in the Lord and His Word. We must not allow that to change our resolve to trust God. We must be like Caleb. When the multitude says no to God, we need to say yes to Him. We need to affirm His power and His ability to do whatever He has promised in His Word. We must be examples of faith in a world of unbelief. God will bless us, like He did Caleb, if we will stand up for Him against the crowd.
