Handling Sacred Things
God is watching to see if we have reverence for sacred things. I pray that we all realize that certain things are holy and set apart for us, so we can draw close to the Lord and encounter Him in a meaningful way. We must never neglect these things, and we must always handle them with great care. Moses made sure the Israelites knew this. They had built the Tabernacle for worshiping God by offering sacrifices and other means of worship. However, only the Levites could handle the holy items, and they could only do it with the help of Aaron and his sons, the priests. (Numbers 4:15) The Kohathites were one family of the tribe of Levi. They were responsible for carrying the most holy things from one destination to the next. However, they had to wait until the priests covered them, and they were never to touch any of the sacred objects with their hands of they would die. They had to carefully carry them with the poles, so they did not incur the wrath of God. I pray we will learn from this.
God wants all of us to recognize that He is holy, without sin. The things that God does are holy, too. God inspired the 66 books of the Bible to be written for us to know what is holy and what is not. Therefore, the Bible is holy. We are to handle it with great care. If we mishandle the Bible, we could cause someone to believe the wrong thing and even end up in hell for eternity. Also, the Bible tells us that life is holy. Each person is created in God's image, so if we harm another person or kill another person, God's anger will come upon us. God's name is holy, so we are not to take His name in vain. If we do, He will punish us. These are just a few of God's holy things which we have today. We need to handle them with care and show others how they are holy, too. It is our duty, as believers, to handle them well, just as it was the duty of the Kohathites to carry the sacred items of the Tabernacle.
