The Functions of Our Lord

God is busy all the time. I do not mean that He is stressed or overwhelmed. He is just actively involved in His creation to the extent that He is constantly engaged in various functions which we need Him to fulfill. This is a very good thing, because we are so incapable of doing all of these things for ourselves and for others on our own. Just think of what it takes to run the universe. Consider how many problems the Lord has to solve for the billions of people on the earth each day. There is so much to being the Lord of all. Isaiah summed it up for us very well. (Isaiah 33:22) The Lord is our Judge. The Lord is our Lawgiver, and the Lord is our King. He is the One who will save us. See what I mean? There is plenty for the Lord to do that no one else can do as well as He does.

God is the Judge, because He is the only One who knows all and can righteously judge without bias in every case. No human being can do that. God is the Perfect Judge. God is our Lawgiver. He designed us, so He knows the right ways for us to operate as individuals and in society with other people. Human laws always fall short of perfection, but God's laws in His Word are exactly what we need to follow. God is our King. He is sovereign over all things, so He can direct all the events to the proper conclusion. He can protect us or bring us down according to His will, which is always better than our will. He is the One who will save us, because He is the Deliverer. He can deliver us from any enemy, and He is the Only One who can deliver us from our sins by His power and grace. What a marvelous God we have! Could it be that this verse was used by our Founders to form the three branches of our government in the USA? I believe it was. They saw that we must have these three functions accomplished for people to live together in harmony and do things well. If God needed to do these three things, then, we must do our best to accomplish them in His will. They were wise to pattern our system of government after the functions of God and to point people to Him as the Only One who saves us.
