A Prayer for Us to Pray

As Christians, we know we are supposed to pray and to pray every day. The problem is that many of us do not know how to pray and what to pray. That makes our prayers very short and repetitive. God desires for us to pray fervent, sincere prayers that have real substance. He loves to answer those prayers when they come from a faithful heart. That is exactly the kind of prayer King Hezekiah prayed when the king of Assyrian was about to attack Jerusalem. (Isaiah 37:20) Hezekiah took the letter from the Assyrian king and laid it out before the Lord in the Temple. Then, He cried out to God to save His people by His power. The reason Hezekiah was asking for this was not just so that the people would not be killed and Jerusalem overthrown. He asked for God to do this so that all the kingdoms of the world would know that the Lord God of Israel was God and Him alone. I believe we can take this prayer and pray it today, because of all that is happening in our world.

Our world is in such a mess that our only hope is for God to save us. Just like the Assyrians had conquered so many countries who worshiped idols, the forces of evil today are conquering people and nations who worship idols and false gods. People worship themselves. They worship Satan and the earth and stars. People worship all kinds of things besides the One True God. As believers, we need to pray for God to save us from the onslaught of Satan's forces in this country and in the world and to do it in such a way that there is no doubt that He did it. We must fervently pray for God to intervene in our world, so that all nations of the world will know that He alone is God, and they should worship Him only. They might not turn to the Lord, but we will be delivered, and they will have no excuse before God when they have to confess that Jesus is Lord. I pray we will all adapt this theme and this prayer, because our world needs Jesus more now than ever. Let's pray this in love for all people and in faith toward God, so that many can come to the Lord here and around the world.
