Who do I have in Heaven but You?

The longer we live the more family and friends we have who enter eternity before us. As Christians,  we long to see those who have already gone to heaven.  This is especially true around holidays like Father's Day and Mother's Day. That desire has entered my mind this week as we lead up to Father's Day.  However, it is a secondary thought, when I consider going to heaven. The primary One I want to see in heaven is Jesus. He deserves all worship and praise for saving me and giving me eternal life. The psalmist felt this way, too. (Psalm 73:25-26) He asked, "Who do I have in heaven but You?" Then, he went on to affirm that he desired nothing on earth but the Lord. The reason was simple. His flesh and his heart may fail, but God was the strength of his heart and his portion forever. What a fantastic truth for all of us to realize.

When we are saved, it is not because of anything we have done. It is all based on what Jesus did for us by dying and rising again to pay for our sin debt. Then, God forgives us by His grace, as a free gift, once we put our trust in Christ alone for our salvation. Then, we have eternal life, and we look forward to heaven but that is not the main thing. The main thing is that Christ becomes our "portion." The greatest blessing is that we have Him in our life, and He is there to meet all of our needs in His will. When He is our portion, He is all we need. In Him, we have love, joy, and peace. There is nothing that can separate us from His love and presence. See what the Bible means? He is the One we have in heaven. He is why we do not desire anything on earth, but Him. Our flesh and our heart may fail, but He is our strength, our portion forever. What a privilege! What a provision for someone as unworthy as we are. Let's set our sights on seeing Jesus in heaven, bowing before Him in worship, and thanking Him for being our Portion forever.
