Take Delight in the Lord

Let's take stock of what truly makes us happy and joyful. What makes us smile and feel warm inside? What causes us to be satisfied and at peace? What is the one thing or one person that we can count on to lift our spirits? For some people the answer is money or what money can buy. Others would say that they get a thrill from sports or some type of recreation. Others might even have a favorite food that brings them great pleasure. If these things are the things we are depending on to satisfy us, we will never be fully content. We will have to have more and more. However, David found the one thing in which we should delight more than anything else. (Psalm 37:4) He had found that if we delight in the Lord, He will give us our heart's desires. I pray we all see how profound this is for us today, if we are to really find joy and happiness.

Do we take delight in the Lord? When we think of times of prayer, do we think of them as a duty or a delight? When we read the Bible is it just something we must do, or do we long to connect with the Lord through His Word? The key is in the Lord being our heart's delight, more than any other person or thing in this world. When we truly delight in the Lord, because we love Him and appreciate His power in our lives to make us new in Christ and to give us His joy, then He will see that our heart is set on Him in love. In turn He will show His love back to us by giving us our heart's desires. Of course, what we will want the most, when we come to delight in the Lord, are the same things God wants for us. Our heart will be in tune to His heart, and our desires will be His desires. These things are the benefits of loving the Lord fully as we should and taking delight in Him and no other. I pray we will all search our hearts and make sure we truly take delight in the Lord. It will change our lives!
