Miracles of Healing

God can work a miracle any time He wants. He is all-powerful. However, He doesn't always work a miracle whenever we ask. That is because He is all-knowing. He always knows what is best for us and those around us. Therefore. it would be wrong for God to heal us, if it wasn't really what we needed at that time. It is wonderful when God chooses to send a miracle of healing. One great example is the account of Naaman, the Syrian general. He was told by Elisha's messenger to wash seven times in the Jordan River for his leprosy to be healed. At first, he did not want to follow this command, but he changed his mind and went anyway. (II Kings 5:14) When Naaman dipped himself in the Jordan seven times the way the man of God had commanded, his skin was restored. His skin was like the skin of a small child, and he was clean. God is so good to grant healing, but what is His goal?

God doesn't want to heal people just so their physical ailment can be cleared up, and they can be physically well. When God works a miracle of healing, He has an eternal purpose. He wants us to see Him for who He is and submit to Him as Lord of all. That is what Naaman did after his healing, and that is always God's goal. Of course, not everyone who gets healed gets saved and has his or her sins for cleansed, but that is God's heart. He is giving us a chance to bow before Him as Lord of all and receive eternal life. Please, remember God wants us to view life from an eternal perspective. If all we do is live for now and end up in hell, what good does it do us to be healed? Nothing. On the other hand, if God works a miracle of healing and someone sees it and becomes a child of God for eternity that is everything. That is why I pray we will have God's eternal perspective about miracles of healing. Then, we will be emphasizing what is most important, not the lesser things.
