Finding Our Strength in the Lord

Life can be very difficult. We can be attacked by others. We can be depressed over our own circumstances. We can feel like giving up, if we do not know what to do. It is so important for us to know where to turn when we find ourselves in these situations. Also, it is vital that we prepare in advance for them to happen, so we have the ability to overcome whatever happens to us. David knew just what to do when he found himself in an extremely difficult position. (I Samuel 30:6) David was facing the prospect of being stoned to death by his own troops. They were very bitter because the Amalekites had taken all of their sons and daughters, as well as, their wives. However, David turned to the Lord His God, and He found strength in the Lord to get through this horrible situation. I wonder what we would have done if we were in David's place?

When we face death, we need extra strength, whether we could be killed by another person or die of physical causes. None of us wants to suffer pain to that extent, and we do not have any experience with what happens as we slip out of this world on the way to eternity. Therefore, we need to be strongly connected with the Lord on a daily basis. He needs to be our strength, even in the good times, so we can call on Him quickly for the emergencies that arise. Then, there are the times we face the wrath of angry, bitter people. They may not try to kill us, but they may be determined to make our life very uncomfortable. How will we handle those people and those situations? It all depends on our relationship with the Lord, and our ability to lean on Him for wisdom and strength. Remember, God is able! There is no person or situation He can't handle for us, but we have to give ourselves to Him and allow Him to intervene for us. That is what David did, and God restored all of their family members and their possessions. He can do the same for us, if He is where we find our strength.
