Who Am I to Go for God?

I have been doing a series of messages from the book of Jonah on "Going for God." Jonah was called by God to go to Nineveh, the evil city, and deliver God's message of judgment to them. Jonah did not do what God told him to do. In fact, he went the other way. He did not go for God, but he went his own way. In the same way God came to Moses and called him to go back to Egypt and confront Pharaoh, so he could bring the Israelites back to Canaan. (Exodus 3:11) When God spoke to Moses, he felt unqualified to go to Pharaoh, and deliver his people. He asked God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?" It took God a lot of convincing in both of these instances before He finally got them to go for Him. What will it take for us, as believers, to go for God as we have been called to do?

I believe most Christians have the same problem as Moses. We feel inadequate to go and speak for the Lord. This is an absurd way to feel, just as it was for Moses. Moses was raised in Egypt. He knew the culture and the language. He was raised in the Pharaoh's home by the Pharaoh's daughter, even though he was an Israelite. God called Moses to go back, because He knew he was the most qualified person to do this job for Him. The same is true for us, when God calls us today. He doesn't ask us to do things that we are not suited to do. He saved us. He knows us. He is ready to empower us. However, we have to say "yes." We have to trust that God knows what He is doing and go do what He is leading us to do. We must not argue with God or go the other way, like Jonah. If we do, we will feel His anger. He is Lord, and we are His servants, so we should say, "Lord, send me and use me." God ended up using Moses in a great way, and He will do the same for us, if we will go for God as He directs us.
