God Delights in Unchanging Love
Some people think of God as a vengeful, old man sitting on a throne in heaven, who delights in punishing people for their sins. Nothing could be farther from the truth. God is love. That is His nature eternally. He always acts in love, even when He is angry with us because of our sins. He wants us to repent and turn to Him, so we can experience His love fully again. The reality is that God delights in unchanging love. (Micah 7:18) He is like no other god. He pardons iniquity. He passes over the rebellious acts of the remnant of His people. He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. What a wonderful God He is !
We would be in a terrible mess if God was really like most people think of Him. He is not out to make us miserable. He wants us to have freedom from the bondage of sin. That is why He is so quick to pardon our iniquities as we turn to Jesus in repentance and faith. He doesn't hold our sins against us, but He actually cuts us some slack on our rebellious acts, because He knows how frail we are. He doesn't stay angry forever, either. He doesn't hold a grudge against us for being so sinful. He forgives us, and sends our sins away from His perfect memory. Why does He do all of this? It is because He delights in unchanging love. He always loves us. There is nothing that can cause Him not to love us. However, we must not presume on that love. We must repent and run to Him, so He can pardon us, and lavish His unchanging love on us.
