Forgetting God

Can we really forget God? The Bible says we can, and we do. In fact, it is much more common than we might think, since God is so great and powerful. How could we forget God? We go our own way. We don't talk with Him. We don't read His Word like we are commanded to do. We stop participating in the Body of Christ, the Church. We even start mixing into our lives non-Christian philosophies and beliefs. That is what Israel did in Isaiah's time. (Isaiah 17:10) He had to confront them about forgetting God and not remembering that He was the God of their salvation and their Rock of refuge. In their case, they had begun to bring in other beliefs of strange gods, and even though they planted good things in their lives, it brought a terrible harvest. I pray we would not have this happen to any of us today.

As Christians, forgetting God is a very real danger. We are so busy. Our lives are physically draining. We work very hard, and we play even harder, at times. God can get pushed out of our daily schedule and out of our minds. We read so much online, and hear so much falsehood through the media, it is easy for false beliefs and even false gods to creep into our beliefs. All of these things contribute to forgetting God and what He has done for us through Christ. The only way to stop this from happening is to keep growing in our Christian walk, getting stronger and stronger in our faith. Then, we will never forget God or be shaken by falsehoods. However, if we fail to do that, we can even forget that God has delivered us from sin and given us eternal life. Read what God told Peter to tell us in II Peter 1:2-11. I pray we will all heed this warning and never forget God, like Israel did.
