Proper Confession

We talk about confessing our sins to God, but many people do not fully understand how to do that properly. It is important that we confess in the way God is expecting, so He will respond and cleanse our sin. In the book of Judges the people of Israel rebelled a lot. Then, they would return to the Lord by confessing their sins. (Judges 10;10) Their confession was done in the right way, so God would send another judge to relieve their suffering after He had cleansed their sins. We can learn much from their confession.

The people of Israel "cried out" to the Lord. They were sincerely burdened for their sin, so much so, that their emotion came through loud and clear to God. It was not just a perfunctory prayer. They personally admitted their specific sin to the Lord, and they confessed that it was a sin against Him. It was not just something they had done wrong, but it was a personal affront to God. In fact, they emphasized this. That is why the word "indeed' is used in Hebrew. Then, they explained what they had done wrong against God. They had forsaken God by serving the Baals. Not only did they admit they had sinned, they showed that they knew exactly what they had done. I believe if we will confess our sins in a similar way, God will hear us a answer our cries.
