Your Sin will Find You Out

This famous verse in the book of Numbers has become a saying for people over the years because it is so very true. We see it all of the time. We can't hide from our sin. God will make sure our sin will find us out. (Numbers 32:23) That is just what Moses warned the tribes of Reuben and Gad about on the east side of the Jordan River. They could have their portion of the inheritance on that side of the Jordan, if their armed men would go with the rest of the Israelites until the whole land of Canaan was conquered. If they failed to do what they vowed to do, their sin would find them out. This is so important for all of us, especially believers.

There are two types of sins, if we are speaking in broad categories. There are sins of commission and sins of omission. Both are equally as deadly for us. However, many times we consider sins of commission, things we do wrong that displease the Lord, worse than sins of omission. Please, do not let that happen. It is just as bad for us to know the right thing to do and to fail to do it. (James 4:17) It could even be worse, because we are saying we can get away with not doing God's will, and we are OK, since we didn't do as many wrong things. Just like Reuben and Gad if they had failed to fulfill their obligation to the rest of Israel, we will fail to fulfill our obligation to be righteous before the Lord, to be holy. God hates that, and He will make sure our sin will find us out, and we will be punished for it. I pray this saying, this verse and its truth, will stick in our hearts and help us be more like Jesus.
