Anointed and Consecrated

God gave Moses detailed instructions for making all of the structure of the Tabernacle and all of the furnishings. Then, He told Moses how to make the clothes for Aaron and his sons to serve as priests there. Finally, God explained how to make the holy anointing oil and the incense to be used. Moses took the holy anointing oil and poured it on Aaron and his sons. (Exodus 30:30) In this way, they were anointed and consecrated to minister as priests to God. This truth also applies to us, as believers, today, even though we do not use the Old Testament oil and perfumes. Ours is even better.

All Christians are priests. (I Peter 2:9) We are saved, not just to have forgiveness and eternal life. We are saved from our sins, so we can serve the Lord as priests or ministers. We know the Lord Jesus, so we can enter the presence of God at any time, like the priests of the Old Testament went into the Holy Place in the Tabernacle. We stand between God and other people who do not know the Lord, so we can bring them to know Jesus. We know God, and we know what it means to be human, so we can show people the way to the Lord. However, we can't do this in our own power. That is why we need to be anointed and consecrated. The oil of anointing represents the Holy Spirit. Each Christian has the Holy Spirit living in us, and He gives us His anointing to empower us to do God's will and to speak for the Lord. This is true if we will ask Him and yield ourselves so He can fill us. Then, once we are anointed, we are to be consecrated for the service of the Lord. This means we are separated from doing the worldly things, and we give ourselves fully to do God's will. As we are anointed and consecrated fully, we can be used greatly by God to minister to Him and to others for His glory. I pray we will all be anointed and consecrated all of the time. (Ephesians 5:18-21)
