The Incomparable God

We know someone is really great, powerful, or wealthy when there is no one else with whom to compare them. There are not too many, if any, people who fall into that category Usually,  there is someone as great, powerful or wealthy as they are. However, when it comes to God, He is The Incomparable. (Isaiah 46:5) Isaiah made this very clear. His whole book of prophecies contains many proofs of this fact. This is especially true when people try to compare other gods with the One True God. There is absolutely no comparison. Let's consider something else God inspired Isaiah to write for us, too, on this subject.

Can we picture God without reducing Him? Of course, the answer is a resounding "no." If we ever try to picture God in words or in pictures, we always fall short. We have to reduce Him to something we can imagine or picture in our finite minds. That reduces Him to less than His true substance. We cannot conceive of His full greatness, so any picture of God falls very short. That is one reason we were commanded not to make any graven images of God. If we did, they would be a gross distortion of His greatness. It is better for us to allow our sanctified imagination to take us to grand places where we simply try to grasp one part of His nature partially. Then, when we put all of our thoughts together, we only have a small picture of the Incomparable God.
