A Safe Place to Get Away

Where do you go or what do you do when you need to get away from the pressures and stresses of life? Some people get away by playing video games, so that they are lost in fantasy. Others retreat to nature and tune out the things of their normal life. Still others find an escape by taking drugs or drinking alcohol. Without that escape they can't handle life. However, none of those outlets really enable us to get away in a way that meets our needs. King David had as much stress as anyone, and he found a place for breathing room. He knew a safe-house where he could get away from it all. in fact, he had an open invitation from the Lord to come as His guest any time he needed it. God always took him seriously and made him welcome among those who know and love the Lord.  (Psalm 61:3-5) I pray we all have found the Lord and His safe-house. We need to go there every day.

Of course, I am a firm believer in having a time with the Lord every morning which I call my "unhurried time" with the Lord. I believe God calls all of His children to escape from the pressures of life and seek Him first thing in the morning. When we do that we have breathing room before the day gets hectic. We spend time with the Lord so we can enter His safe-house, and we can talk with Him about anything that concerns us and about all of the things we can't handle on our own. Once we know Jesus, we have an open invitation to enter as God's guest any time, morning, noon, or night, but the morning is essential to get things right from the start. God always takes us seriously. We can talk about anything and know that we are accepted among all those who know and love Him. What a relief! We can breathe and know we can find release from the cares of this world by spending time with our Lord.
