Never Regret Holding on to Your Integrity

Integrity is a precious commodity in life. Once we lose it, it is difficult to get it back. If we bring it into question by our words or actions, people will doubt if we have it for a long time. So what is integrity? It is always saying and doing what is right and true, no matter who sees us or who knows what we are saying and doing. That is my definition, not Websters'. However, I believe it is correct, and I believe that is what Job had. He was holding fast to his integrity, even though his friends tried to get him to admit to things which were not true of him and his actions. He was very sure that he would never regret keeping his integrity intact. (Job 27:6) Job's insight shows us an important principle for living as God desires.

There are times when we must fudge on the truth if we are to be accepted by other people. This is never right, but it is a great temptation. Other times, we know that if we tell a little lie, we can make some money or get our way. Then, there are also times, when we think that no one will ever know what we are going to do, so we do it, knowing it is a sin. Whenever we give in to a temptation to compromise our integrity there is One Person who will know exactly what we are doing and why we are doing it. God knows it all. We can't fool Him. He knows our motives and our words and our actions. Then, when we stand before Him in the Judgment, we will have to give an account of those things. We will regret giving up our integrity. However, if we stay true to the Lord and truth, we may not please people nearly all of the time, but we will please God. Believe me, He is the One who counts.
