How to Have Intimacy with God

We can't just burst into God's presence and enjoy intimate fellowship with Him any time, even if we are one of His followers. If we have sin in our lives, we must confess it and be cleansed before that can happen. God is holy, and we must be holy to draw close to Him. On the other hand, if we live a consistently righteous life, God loves to have us with Him in times of fellowship. That is why David gave us a short list of those character qualities that make us very desirable to God. (Psalm 15:1-5) Let's go through the list and check out how we are doing. It could be just what we need to have the fellowship He wants us to have with Him.

God loves to see us "walking straight." That is when we are living according to His commands, so that we are staying on the straight and narrow path He has laid out for us, as believers. God looks for us to "act right." This goes along with walking straight, but it reminds us there is always a right way and a wrong way to act, so let's choose the right attitudes and actions every time. Also, "tell the truth." God is truth, and He hates liars. We must be good friends to have intimacy with God, so we must not "hurt" our friends, but help them. When we do wrong, we accept the responsibility. We do not blame those around us. When we see something that is despicable, we don't condone it, but we despise it. We always keep our word, even when it causes us to lose money. God loves for us to make an honest living, working hard to meet the needs of our family and to help others. Finally, we never take a bribe, because that clouds our judgment and leads us to do the wrong thing. Now, that is a great list to chew on. If we live like that, God will always welcome us into His presence for times of rich fellowship with Him.
