Don't Fight Against Your Brothers

Followers of Jesus spend a lot of time fighting against each other. We may not agree with each other on some things, but we should never fight with other believers. This is always a sin according to numerous Bible passages. Rehoboam was young and foolish as he took over as king of Israel after Solomon died. He followed the advice of his young foolish advisors and answered Jeroboam harshly when asked how he would reign over the 12 tribes. Jeroboam and the 10 tribes of the north rebelled and started the country to Israel, while Rehoboam reigned over Judah and Benjamin. As soon as this happened, Rehoboam gathered the army to attack his brothers, but Shemaiah stopped them by delivering God's word. They listened and went home. (II Chronicles 11:2-4) I wonder why we don't listen and stop fighting against our brothers?

When we are born again by trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God adopts us into His family. There are no denominations or factions in God's family. All of those distinctions are made by people. It is not that we can't disagree on certain things and have differing groups of believers, the point is that we are all supposed to be one in Christ. We are not to fight with each other. We are to present a united message of the gospel to all people. John 17 is clear. The world will be drawn to Jesus when they see our supernatural unity as believers. When we love each other as the Father loves the Son, the world will know God is real, and they need Him. Of course, the opposite is also true. When they see us fighting, they are repelled by our attitude, and they do not want to be around us or God. Let's not be guilty of this sin. Let's love all other believers as our brothers and sisters in Christ.
