Building a House for God

How could any human build a house for God? That is the question Solomon asked himself. He also let the King of Tyre know just what he was trying to do, when he asked for his help with the construction. He told Hiram that the house had to be the best house, because the God of Israel was the best God, better by far than any other god. In fact, the whole cosmos could not hold God, so how could this building house Him? All Solomon felt worthy to do was to burn incense to Him. (II Chronicles 2:5,6) Solomon had the right concept of God and of himself. We can all learn from this wisdom.

Our God is the best God. No other gods can compare to Him. Therefore, when we know that, why would we worship any other gods? We need to focus all of our worship and praise on the One True God. Then, as we worship Him we need to meditate on His greatness. The universe He created can't contain Him. He is outside of time and space. Therefore, how can He fit into a house built by people? Of course, God is the Only One who can answer that question, so we just have to marvel that God lived in the temple in Jerusalem, and now He lives in us, as believers. What an amazing God! This should put us in our place. We should see that we can't do anything for God. All we can do is to worship Him in various ways to show Him our love, our faith, and our praise for His greatness. Then, when He gives us the ability to do something in His service, we give Him all of the credit for giving us the ability to do it.
