Compromise

Our normal inclination is to compromise on things, so we can keep everyone happy. Most people shy away from taking a strong position one way or the other, because they are afraid people will reject them if they do not agree. Also, sometimes, we are tempted to compromise on our beliefs and actions, because we want to enjoy some things that we know we really shouldn't do. No matter why we do it, compromise always leads to bad results whenever we compromise on an absolute truth of God. When Joash became the king of Judah, he was only seven years old, so he depended on Jehoiada, the priest,  to help him lead the people. Jehoiada taught him and trained him to do things that pleased the Lord all of his life. However, for some reason Joash never got rid of the pagan shrines where the people were sacrificing and burning incense to false gods. (II Kings 12:2,3) We need to stop and think about this, so we do not make the same mistake.

I can kind of understand why a very young person or a teenager would be tempted to compromise and give in to the temptation. They have so many hormones raging, and they have not established their beliefs in their heart. If they know the Lord, and they are grounded in the Word of God, the Holy Spirit will convict them of sin and guide them to do what is right in the strength of the Lord. The thing I don't understand is when a mature Christian, like a pastor should be, gives in to compromise on an basic Bible doctrine or a sinful practice. It is a form of self deception. (Galatians 6:7) We can talk ourselves into doing the wrong thing or believing the wrong thing by justifying our actions or beliefs in our own reasoning and logic. When we do that, we are saying we know better than God. We must decide once and for all that if God said it that is what we will believe and do. Then, God can bless our lives for good, even if other people don't understand or agree with what we do.
