The Battle Belongs to God

None of us are strong enough to fight our own battles. We might think we are invincible, but we aren't. Goliath, the Philistine's giant warrior, thought he was invincible. God showed him that he wasn't. God sent a young man, maybe even a teenager, to defeat him with a sling and a stone. Of course, we know the story of David and Goliath. David knew one thing that we all need to know. God doesn't save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to Him, so He can use any means He wants to give the victory. Because of the faith of David, Goliath was defeated very easily that day. (I Samuel 17:47) We need to prayerfully consider what this event in history can teach us today, as we face several giants coming against us.

If we misunderstand God's ways of defeating giants and other enemies, we may believe we have to be in control of our situations all of the time. Many people are very controlling because of this. Others feel like they must overpower people with their personality or physical strength. However, there are many problems we will face which we can't control, and we do not have enough strength to overcome. The Corona virus and the fall of the stock market are two such enemies. None of us can fully protect ourselves from the virus, no matter how vigilant we are. Also, we can't do anything to cause the economy to recover and the stock market to go back up. We must stop and remember what David knew. The battle here belongs to God. He is the Healer! He is the Provider! God can protect us from sickness, or He can heal us. It is up to us to trust Him, as we do all we can to stay well. God can restore the economy. That would be easy for Him to do. The question is, "Will we pray and stand against these things in the Name of the Lord, like David did? Will we take our 5 smooth stones and our sling, which is what we have, and dedicate it to the Lord to use in this battle? I pray that we will, and I pray our leaders will do the same thing. If all of us will trust the Lord and let Him fight for us, we can and will be victorious.
