God Answers Clearly

When David and his band of men were hiding from King Saul in the wilderness, he heard that the Philistines were attacking the peaceful town of Keilah and stealing their grain. David prayed to the Lord asking Him if he should go after the Philistines to teach them a lesson. God said that he should attack. When David told his men, they did not want to take the chance because of the other dangers they were facing, so David prayed to the Lord again. God answered David the same way the second time, telling him to go to Keilah, and He would give the Philistines into his hands. (I Samuel 23:2,4) This is a very good example of how God answers us, as believers, very clearly when we faithfully call on Him. I pray that is your experience with God.

When we become followers of Jesus, not only are we saved from our sins, but we are to live to become like Jesus and do His will for us. We have the Bible to tell us most of what we should do on a daily basis. However, there are instances when we need to know something that is specific for us at that time. Then, we have the Holy Spirit to direct us and empower us. God can send angels to help us, too. However, on occasion, God does speak to us very clearly. He told David when to go, where to go, what to do, and what He was going to do for him. That is pretty specific. I am reminded of Paul praying 3 times for God to remove his thorn in the flesh, but God said no three time. Then, God said, "My grace is sufficient for you; for power is perfected in weakness." (II Corinthians 12:8,9) God told Paul why He would not remove it. Yes, I know God does not always tell us why, but He can and does, at times. God is a Good Father, who loves us, and He wants us to know exactly what to do and when to do it. We need to pray often, listening for His still, small voice or His loud admonition to direct us clearly. Then, we need to obey completely.
