Our Spiritual Food

Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well while His disciples went to get food. They had been on a long journey up from Judea to Galilee, and they were all tired and hungry. Jesus sat by the well, and then, engaged the woman in conversation. He led her to see that He was the Lord, the Messiah, and she left to tell the whole town. It was then the disciples returned with the food, but Jesus would not eat. He told them that He had food they did not know about. He was not referring to regular food. He was talking about His spiritual food, which fed His soul to satisfaction. (John 4:14) I believe this food is available for all believers to enjoy the same satisfaction Jesus felt that day.

Jesus said that His food was to "do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work." As believers, we are to be like Jesus, so we should have the same goal. When we do God's will and finish the work He has for us, it is very satisfying. It is much more gratifying than a large banquet. When we do God's will, and we know that He is smiling upon us for our faithful obedience, it brings joy and peace to our hearts. I know many of us have experienced this when we have gone to make a hospital visit. We may have been tried and hungry when we arrived, but we leave filled up. The same is true when we share the gospel as Jesus did. There is nothing so satisfying as seeing another person come to know Christ and to know we were part of the process. I commend this spiritual food to all of us. I believe we should partake of it every day.
