I Will Rescue You

The officials in Jerusalem were very upset with Jeremiah, because he was prophesying that the King of Babylon would take over the city and burn it. They got permission to put him in jail, and then the officials put him down in a muddy cistern to die. Ebed-melech heard about this and went to the king. The king told him to take a group of men and get Jeremiah out of the mud, which they did. When the time came for the city to fall to Babylon, God told Jeremiah to inform Ebed-melech that He would rescue him, so that he would not be handed over to the enemies. (Jeremiah 39:16,17) This is a great lesson for us in the power of God in hopeless situations.

God sent the army of Babylon against the holy city of Jerusalem because of their terrible sin against Him. Nothing could prevent this from happening. God was going to send judgment on them. However, God could rescue those He wanted to protect from this time of judgment. That is what He did for Jeremiah and for Ebed-melech, since they were faithful to Him. Today, we live in a very sinful time. God could bring swift destruction on America or any country of the world at any time. As believers, we should not fret over this impending judgment. We should remain faithful to the Lord. If He chooses, He can rescue us from what He is about to do. If He doesn't rescue us physically, He will rescue us by taking us to heaven. Either way, we are safe in the arms of the Lord. Therefore, we must not be afraid. We must keep on doing God's will as long as we live on this earth.
