A God-given Heritage

There are many benefits for those who fear the name of the Lord. Yes, I know that it seems awkward to talk about having fear for the Lord. It is not like our fear of people or circumstances. It is a reverential fear. It is being in awe of God and His power to bless and to punish, as He sees fit. When we fear God we will obey Him, and our obedience leads to joy. Our worship is more intense when we have a good fear of the Lord. Our fear of the Lord is a deterrent to sin, too. We want to please God, not to face His wrath. However, there is another benefit of fearing the name of the Lord that David told us about. (Psalm 61:5) I believe we all need to be thankful for this one.

David knew that God knew his heart, and He saw his obedience, which came out of his fear of God's name. Then, David saw the result of his holy fear. God had given him a heritage to pass on to the following generations. This was not just true for David, but God has given a heritage to all who fear His name. We will all be known for something, and that reputation will be passed down to those who follow us. This is such a wonderful gift from the Lord. It is not about us getting any glory. It is about the blessing that will come to the future generations, because of our fear of God. Others who we will never meet will come to the Lord or draw closer to Him, because of our fear of the Lord. That is a fantastic reason to make sure we live in that reverential fear of God every day. #nhbaptistdotorg

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 62-65.
