God's Promise to Appoint a Blessing

God commanded Israel to keep many special Sabbaths. All of them are outlined here at the end of the book of Leviticus. Each day or year was a time of rest, either for the people or for the land. Each Sabbath required the people to trust the Lord. They were to do no regular work for that day or year. Therefore, they lost productive time. However, as they obeyed God to observe the Sabbaths, God would appoint a blessing for them, so they had plenty of what they needed. (Leviticus 25:20,21) I believe this same principle is in effect today.

During the Sabbath or Sabbatical year, which was every seventh year, the people were to allow the land to lay fallow for the entire year. That meant no plowing, planting, or harvest, so they had to start anew the eighth year and only receive a harvest at the end of that year. If they were faithful, God gave them three years worth of food in the sixth year to get them through until the harvest of the eighth year. Now, that is a miracle, but He appointed that blessing to all who were faithful, and He did it every time. I believe God has similar appointed blessings for all of His commands. If we tithe our income, He appoints us a blessing to make the 90% go farther than 100% would have gone. If we keep His Sabbath days, He gives us true rest, and we do not miss out on anything we need by missing a day of work. Whatever God commands, if we follow His commands, He appoints a blessing for us whether it is a physical, financial, or spiritual blessing.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 26-27 and Numbers 1.
