The Solid Foundation for Life
Many people in this world lead very unstable lives. The storms and trials of life upset them and send them into a tailspin. They have no idea how to give themselves a firm footing, so that they can endure whatever comes with joy. I am glad to share with all of us what Jesus told us would guarantee a solid foundation for our lives. (Matthew 7:24) He is the One who should know because He came to live among us, and He endured the worst ridicule and suffering anyone has ever had to bear, but He never got down, and He never sinned.
The Word of God is given to us as a precious gift from our Lord. When Jesus came to earth, He shared the very words of God from His human lips. At other times, men were inspired to speak and to write the words of God, so we could benefit from them. Jesus assured us in His Sermon on the Mount that if we hear the words of God and do them, we will be like the wise man who built his house on the rock. That sounds pretty stable to me. That is just what Jesus did Himself. He always followed the Old Testament and whatever the Father told Him. He did not just hear, but He obeyed. Therefore, His life was stable, and He lived in joy of knowing nothing could shake Him from the love of the Father. We can have the same stability and joy, as we hear the words of God and do them. It is a daily practice, and the more we learn of God's Word then the more we do it. That makes our foundation stronger and stronger, so that we never need to fear what comes into our lives.
