No Anxiety over What to Say

The original 12 disciples of Jesus Christ and others who decided to follow Jesus faced persecution, and we are liable to face persecution for our beliefs today. It could cause us to be anxious or afraid. However, Jesus told us not to be anxious over what to say, if we are delivered over to those in authority. (Matthew 10:19,20) The reason we do not need to be anxious is that the Spirit of God will speak through us, so that we are given the correct words to say. That truth should bring us much peace and confidence in the Lord to guide us, no matter what happens.

Many people are anxious because they feel like they do not know the Bible well enough to answer other people. That may be true, but the Spirit can still give us the right words to speak at the right time. Some believers are afraid of speaking in front of any crowd or group of officials. It goes back to a very common fear of public speaking that most people have. We do not need to worry about that either, because the Spirit will be using us to address them. It will not be our own ability and words upon which we depend. In short, God never leaves His children in a difficult situation without rushing to our aid. We must not let anxiety or fear stop us from doing God's will. We must be bold, and then, let the Spirit give us what to say, if we are persecuted for doing God's will. That is how this dark world will receive the light of the Lord and the good news of Jesus.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 11-13.
