The Purpose of the Kingdom
Are you a member of the kingdom of heaven? Yes, I mean right now. We can all be citizens of the kingdom of heaven, even though we are still living in this world. If we are citizens of the kingdom, what are we to be doing? We are to be expanding the kingdom to fill the whole world. That is the meaning of the parable of the leaven. (Matthew 13:33) Please, take a moment to consider this important truth.
The kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God is anywhere that Jesus is King. We become members of the kingdom when we trust Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives, because then, He is our King. We are His subjects to fulfill His commands and follow His example. Jesus commands us to make disciples of all of the people groups in this world. (Matthew 28:18-20) Therefore, we are to do our part to see that happen here and around the world. We are to be like Jesus who came to seek and to save that which was lost. (Matthew 19:10) If we do this, we will be like the leaven, because we will infuse all of the people we influence to come to Christ with the power of the Spirit to raise them to the level of being righteous before God, and they will pick up the task to do the same for others, until we reach the whole world. That is the purpose of the kingdom.
