Whiter than Snow
Sin is like a stain on our soul. It needs to be cleansed, but we do not have anything that will remove the stain of sin. Only God can cleanse sin. David knew that truth so well. When he was confronted about his sin with Bathsheba by the prophet Nathan, he was crushed by guilt, and he confessed his sin to God, seeking his cleansing. He was cleansed and made whiter than snow. (Psalm 51:7) We all need to do the same thing.
Salvation brings cleansing from all our sins, when we repent of our sins and trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This is the eternal forgiveness of all of our sins because the blood of Christ was shed for us. However, when we sin after salvation, as David did, we must still confess those sins to God, so He can cleanse us. (I John 1:9) We are not re-saved, but our relationship with God is restored when the cleansing takes place. That is why we must ever stop hating sin and the stain it causes. Also, please understand confessing does remove the stain of sin, but not the consequences of that sin. God knows we need to be kept away from further sins, so He gives us reminders. That way, we will stay close to Him, instead of sinning.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 52-54.
