His Holy Mountain
It was a great thrill to be able to go to Jerusalem for the first time this year. Now I can understand some of the things in the Bible much more clearly. Now I know what a mountain Jerusalem was built upon. It was especially graphic for us, because we ascended to God's city from the Dead Sea, so it was a serious incline all the way. Then, to arrive and see the walls was a wonderful experience. It is amazing to think that God has set apart that mountain for Himself, but it is true. The Bible calls it "His Holy Mountain." (Psalm 48:1) I hope all of you will be able to go to that one special place in this world.
The world holy means "to be set apart." Mount Zion and the city of Jerusalem were set apart by God Himself to be His place. It is where He ordained that the Temple should be built. It is where He resided with His people, the Jews. One day, Jesus will return to reign for 1,000 years from that city. Therefore, from Genesis 22 all the way through the book of Revelation we read about how this is God's city. Of course, Jerusalem was not there when Abraham almost sacrificed Isaac on that mountain, but it was God's special place then, too. I agree with the psalmist that it is right to greatly praise the Lord in His city, on His holy mountain.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 49-51.
