David's Mighty Men

As we read I Chronicles 11 and 12, we find one of the main reasons why David was such a successful king. He was a leader who attracted mighty men, who were willing to fight for him. They saw that the Lord helped David, so they wanted to be a part of his cause. (I Chronicles 12:18) We all need those kind of people in our lives, because we are all fighting battles which we can't win by ourselves. Of course. we must have the Lord's help, but we need other people, too.

Life can be discouraging. It can be just plain painful. We need people around us, like Amasai, one of David's mighty men. He directed 30 other men. However, the Bible says that " the Spirit clothed" him. He did not just come to David's aid, but he came with the power of the Spirit. We need helpers like that to point us in the right direction when we might get off track. Also, he was not about war. He desired peace, even though he knew fighting was necessary sometimes. We all need people to help bring God's peace into our lives. Finally, we need people to whom we can delegate some of the responsibilities of life, to have our burden lightened. Those people are true friends and supporters. Now, when we consider that David had a huge group of these loyal, mighty friends, we can all see why he accomplished much. I pray we would all be like David to attract these people and enjoy life's struggles together.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 14-16.
