A Breach of Faith

When any person has a breach of his or her faith in the Lord, it is a serious matter. King Saul died for his breach of faith. (I Chronicles 10:13) That does not always happen, of course, but we always suffer serious consequences for this sin. Therefore, we need to understand a breach of faith, so we can stay away from it.

A breach is a separation between two things. We could speak of a breach in a wall, which means the wall has a crack so that it has separated at that point. There could be a breach of a dam, when the dam breaks, so that the water can escape through the opening. Faith is trusting what God has told us in His Word or in prayer. It is always based on His revelation of His will to us, and we decide to do what He has said or to believe what we know to be true from His Word. Therefore, a breach of faith is when there is a separation of what we do from what we have said we believe. It is a crack in our faith so big that we do willingly what we know is not according to God's will. On two different occasions Saul did not follow God's clear instructions. He decided to take things in his own hands and change God's way. That is a huge crack in his faith. Then, he went to a witch, a medium, to ask her to bring Samuel back from the dead for him. He was the one who made the decree to God's people to never do that. Then, he went against what God had told him to tell the people, just because he was desperate.  Saul died for his breach of faith. Have you had a breach of your faith? If so, what were your consequences? I pray that we have all learned better than to allow this to happen to us. If not, we could see drastic action from the Lord to set us straight.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 11-13.
