The Procrastination Problem
It seems that many of us have a huge problem with putting things off, instead of going ahead and doing what we know we should do. It is a part of human nature or the flesh. Unfortunately, it is a serious problem, because we fail to accomplish all that needs to be accomplished, and we suffer because of that. This is especially true when it comes to spiritual growth. The people of Israel had this problem about dividing the land, so Joshua had to exhort them to go ahead and take possession of what God had so graciously given them. (Joshua 18:3) This same situation could be causing us serious trouble today, too.
Just think of how important it is in life to be responsible for ourselves and to be people of integrity. When we give in to procrastination for any reason, whether it is being too busy, having a hard time making decisions, or any other reason, we fail to be responsible as we should. The Bible has many commands for us to obey, so we will grow in Christ and become strong for handling all that life throws at us. If we have good intentions, but we keep putting off applying ourselves to do these things, we grow weaker, and Satan has His way in our lives. Therefore, we must put away procrastination and do whatever it takes for us to discipline ourselves to obey the Lord. One way that can help is to ask someone to hold us accountable, and even to be our coach, so we are not trying to do it all by ourselves. Just remember that God does not accept any excuses for procrastination. He is a Good Father, who expects His children to do what He says for our good and His glory.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 21-23.
