Failing to Receive Glory

God is due all of the glory for all that He does and for all that we are able to do, because He gives us the ability to do whatever we do. However, we do receive glory from the Lord, when we are obedient to Him. He exalts us in the eyes of other people, so they can see what He does for people who do His will. In the case of the judge of Israel named Deborah we see an example of when a man did not receive the glory he could have received. Barak would not take the lead in gathering the army to fight against the army of Jabin and his commander, Sisera. Therefore, God delivered Sisera into the hands of a woman, so she received the glory. (Judges 4:9) This account has a great truth for all of us.

God has an order for our families and our society. Deborah was acting as a judge, but it could have been that she was taking that role, because there was not a faithful man God could use at that time. However, be that as it may, she knew that God wanted a man to lead the army into battle, so she called on Barak, but he would not go without her. He failed to take the role God had for him, so he lost the glory. Each of us has a role that God has for us. As we obey the Lord and fulfill His role for us as a man or a woman, a mother or a father, a leader or a follower, we could receive glory from the Lord for our faithfulness, so others will see how important this is. If we fail, the glory will go to someone else, because God's ultimate will is going to be accomplished one way or another. I pray that we will not miss out on God's will for us and on being lifted up for others to see the goodness of God through us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 6-8.
