Worthy of Jesus

I know that none of us are worthy of Jesus. We are all sinners. When we come to Him for salvation, we come by grace through faith. There is nothing good in us that merits knowing Jesus and being worthy of Him. However, Jesus addressed the subject of those who are not worthy of Him, so I believe it is important for us to understand what He is saying to all of us. (Matthew 10:37,38) These things are not good works for salvation, but they are characteristics of the heart that is truly trusting Him with saving faith.

We are not worthy of Jesus if we love our father or mother, our son or daughter more than we love Him. In other words, we must love Jesus more than we love anyone else to be worthy of Him. That love is connected to true faith. In fact, a complete love for Jesus goes hand in hand with complete faith in Jesus. A person will not have one without the other. Also, we are not worthy of Jesus if we do not take up our cross and follow Him. We must be willing to give up our lives and follow Him with no reservations or looking back. That is saving faith, too. We can't be thinking of ourselves. Jesus is Lord. He died for us, when we were sinners. He gave Himself for us, so we must fully give ourselves to Him as Lord of our lives. When we are having that type of love and devotion to Jesus, He sees our faith in Him and saves us as a free gift to us. I pray that we all will heed this warning, so that we love Jesus supremely and follow Him completely. That is what life is all about.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 11-14.
