Walking on Water

With Jesus nothing is impossible. With us nothing is impossible, if Jesus commands us to do it, and we have faith in Him to act on His command. That was the experience of Peter on the Sea of Galilee when He walked on the water to Jesus. (Matthew 14:28,29) Would we have the faith in Jesus to do what Peter did? I certainly hope so.

There are many things in life that seem impossible. Walking on water would be one of those impossible things, because of the nature of water and the pull of gravity. However, Jesus walked on the water, and when He was prompted by Peter to command him to come to Him on the water, Peter did the impossible, too. We need to examine this story and apply it to our lives. Jesus has proved to us and all people that He can do the impossible. Do we believe that like Peter? That is the first step for us to take in doing what is impossible in our lives. Then, we must ask the Lord, if what we want to do is His will. If He shows us it is His will, and He commands us to do it, it is possible. Finally, we have to take the active step of faith, and do what Jesus said. As long as we do it in faith in Him, we are fine. However, Peter began to worry and doubt when he saw the wind and the waves. He failed to continue in faith, so he sunk into the water. Even then, Jesus rescued him, because He was glad Peter was willing to step out of the boat. Will we do these things in whatever areas we think are impossible, or will we simply live in the realm of what we can do on our own? It doesn't take faith to live in that realm.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 15-17.
