Great Is Your Faithfulness

The book of Lamentations was written by Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, because of his great grief over the downfall of Jerusalem and the horrible death of so many of his people. It is a series of funeral poems or lamentations, because Jerusalem had died. However, in the midst of the grief Jeremiah gave us a reason to have hope. (Lamentations 3:22,23) These verses keep us on track when we are overwhelmed by the adversities of life.

God's acts of lovingkindness never cease. Though we have terrible trials and awful pain, He is still there ministering to us to keep us going, as we look to Him. His acts of compassion never fail. Our God is love, and He can't stop being who He is. He acts in great love while at the same time having to punish us for sin or allow other difficulties to come into our lives. The problem is that we do not look to Him and access His lovingkindnesses and compassions. They are new every morning. Therefore, we must go to Him daily, if we are to receive all He has for us. If we will make that a practice, we will proclaim like Jeremiah, "Great is Your faithfulness." It makes me want to break out in that great hymn, which makes my heart soar with thanks to God for being so good and faithful to me.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Lamentations 4-5 and Ezekiel 1-2.
