Trusting in the Lord

God is looking to bless anyone who will trust in Him. The word trust is another way of saying that we believe in the Lord, and we put our faith in Him, no one else. That is what Ebed-melech the Ethiopian did. He was not an Israelite, but he heard the words of the Lord from Jeremiah, and He put his trust in the Lord. God knew his heart, and He told Jeremiah to deliver a message to him, after Ebed-melech had rescued Jeremiah from the miry clay of the cistern in which he had been imprisoned. The message was that even though Jerusalem would fall to Babylon soon, God would spare his life, because he had trusted in Him. (Jeremiah 39:16,18) God blesses us in many ways when we trust Him, because He loves us so much.

It would be enough for the Lord to forgive our sins and give us eternal life when we put our trust in Jesus. That would be far more than we could ever deserve. For eternity we would enjoy heaven and being with the Lord, no matter what else happened to us on this earth. However, God watches over His children. He gives us many blessings every day in addition to salvation from sins. Now, He does not cause us to escape all trouble. We will have troubles and grief in many ways. However, in the midst of the trouble, He will continue to be with us and provide just what we need to carry out His plan for our lives. That is what He was doing for Jeremiah and for Ebed-melech, and He will do the same for all of us if we will truly trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 40-42.
