Two Paths for Life

The book of the Proverbs of Solomon is full of God's wisdom for us. Solomon was blessed by God to be the wisest man in history, and we are blessed to have his proverbs to enlighten us. Many of the proverbs are written as Hebrew poetic verse, and they give two sides of a particular truth, positive and negative, good or bad. Solomon gives us some insight into this as he explains what God said to him to convey to all people. (Proverbs 1:32,33) He gives us the difference between the lives of those who live in waywardness and complacency versus those who listen to the Lord.

"The waywardness of the naive will kill them." People who are so naive as to think they can do whatever they want and go whatever way in life they want to go, often end up dead, because their waywardness from the ways of the Lord will kill them. We see this every day, as people die from unhealthy and unholy practices, which they thought would be fine.

"The complacency of fools will destroy them." Fools live in complacency because they do not think there is a God they should follow or a Judgment Day coming. Therefore, they are lazy, and they put off whatever they can until tomorrow. Eventually, their apathy and lack of urgency to live life according to God's way will destroy them.

"He who listens to Me shall live securely and will be at ease from dread of evil." Those who listen to the Lord and live lives of urgent obedience to Him and His Word will live securely in His blessings, and they will not have a dread of evil. They will be at ease, having His peace.

We have these two paths to choose from in life. What will it be? I pray that we will all choose to listen to the Lord and have true life, being secure in Him and living in His peace.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 2-4.
