Approaching the Lord

Sometimes when we think about drawing near to God to seek Him or to express our love to Him, we only think about being pure and holy to prepare for His presence. That is very true, but it is only partially correct. When we seek the Lord, and when we express our love for His salvation, we need to do it in an attitude of rejoicing, and we need to be magnifying His name. (Psalm 70:4) David realized this truth, and we need to practice it.

Many people do not appreciate the current forms of Christian praise music. They would much rather sedately sing and sit reverently in the pews listening to a message from God's Word than singing praises to the Lord while clapping, raising their hands, and magnifying the Lord with the words they are singing. Whatever causes this preference, it does not change the commands of God's Word. We are commanded to rejoice and to be glad when we seek Him, and we are to express verbally that we want the Lord to be magnified, when we show our love for His salvation. God loves the praises of His people. He loves for us to be expressive in our praise. That is why the Bible talks about using all types of instruments, including our hands to praise Him. When we seek Him in this way, He responds on a very personal level, since we have magnified Him in a very personal way, as He commands us to do.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 71-74.
