What We Eat

I know this post doesn't sound very spiritual, but please, consider what God has laid on my heart to share today. Eating is something that we do all of the time. It is essential for life. However, it can be harmful, instead of being something that gives us the strength we need. God says a lot about food in His Word. Of course, I can't cover all of that here. However, we can lay a foundation, so we can consider how God wants us to eat in 2017. (Genesis 9:3) This could be a key to whether we thrive or have an unhealthy year.

After the flood, God told Noah that He gave them the living creatures to eat for food, just like He gave the fruits and vegetables for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. I know there are some people who believe that being a vegan is the best diet, but I believe based on this verse that God knows that meat is healthy for us, too. Therefore, I think we should build a diet of both, which gives us the calories and nutrients we need. That being said, all foods have different ingredients, and how can we know which are best? Of course, we can learn from research the things we need, and plan to eat foods which supply those needs. We should discipline ourselves not to eat too much or too little, but what will give us the energy we need, not just eat for pleasure.

The reason I say that is we are all body, soul, and spirit. Whatever affects our body and has effect on our soul and spirit. They all three work together. Have you noticed when you feel badly physically, it is hard to be spiritually aware or to think and feel the way we should? Therefore, we should eat right, so we can grow spiritually, and so that we can think and feel the way we should. This is very honoring to God, as we treat the temple of the Holy Spirit well. Of course, exercise helps in this way, too. There is no better stress reducer than exercise and getting enough sleep.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 10-12.
