Is Anything Too Difficult for the Lord?

The Lord appeared to Abraham before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. He came with two angels to confirm that Abraham would have a son by Sarah at that same time the following year. However, Sarah reacted just like Abraham did earlier when God told him that she would bear a son in her old age. She laughed, too. Then, the Lord asked a searching question for both of them, "Is anything too difficult for the Lord?" (Genesis 18:14) We all need to answer that question and understand the truth behind the answer.

God can do anything, so nothing is too difficult for Him. However, God will not do anything outside of His will. If He did that, He would be a sinner, not the holy God. Therefore, we should believe God whenever He gives us a promise or a prophecy in His Word or when He communicates His will directly to us. However, we should not think that we can ask God for anything and receive it every time. That would make God our slave. He is Lord, so He does what He wants, not what we want.

It is so wonderful to serve Almighty God, who can enable a 90 year old lady to have a baby by her 100 year old husband, if that furthers His will. It is wonderful to be submissive to an All-loving Lord, who has everything worked out for His ultimate will to be done, so that all we have to do is listen to Him and obey. This truth removes the stress of life. It is not up to us to do the impossible. It is only up to us to trust the One who can and will do the impossible when He deems it is the right thing to do. We can relax and stop trying to do everything and start trusting the One who can do anything.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 20-23.
