It All Belongs to God
King David was very wealthy. He assembled all of the materials to build the temple, and then, he gave a bountiful gift on top of that. In addition, the people brought a worthy offering, too. They could have been proud of what they gave God, but David reminded them of something very important. None of the things they gave belonged to them. It all belonged to God. (I Chronicles 29:16) If we will remember this fact, it will keep us from making huge mistakes in our lives.
God gave us all that we have, and He still owns it. He gave it to us, so we could manage it for Him. Part of our relationship with God requires us to give all that we are and all that He has given us back to Him. It is not that we can't keep any of it, but it means that we must ask Him what He wants us to do with our gifts and talents from Him, as well as the material things He gives us. In this way, we show God that we know He is Lord, and we are His servants. As servants, we take what He gives us and use it all to honor Him. When we do that, He blesses us, and He actually provides more, since we have the right concept of being stewards. He knows we will use His possessions wisely, so He can trust us with more.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 2-5.
