Because You Have Prayed

King Hezekiah did not know what to do when the king of Assyria came against Jerusalem. Hezekiah took the letter he received from his enemy to the temple, and he spread it out before the Lord. Then, he prayed to the Lord, asking Him what to do. God heard that prayer, because He loves for His children to pray first, before we do anything else. (II Kings 19:20) How often do we do that?

We have the mightiest power in the universe available to us, as believers and, yet often we resort to other means to try to protect ourselves or to get out of difficult situations. Why would we do that? There has to be an element of pride in that we think we are able, and we think of our own resources first, instead of thinking of God first. We must get rid of that pride, if we really want to accomplish the perfect will of God and have His blessings. Also, there is an element of neglect. We fail to pray, because we do not pray. Prayer is not a daily discipline. Many of us only pray when we think things are out of control. Believe me, things are always out of our control. Therefore, we should not neglect to pray daily, and to simply talk with God about everything before we do anything. (John 15:5)

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 21-23.
